Welcome to George Dixon Junior and Infant School Edgbaston.
We have friendly staff, pupils and parents, many of whom are articulate in many different languages. We all work together to make sure that every child at George Dixon is treated as a unique individual and that their potential is maximised by the end of their time with us.

Standards

We believe that pupils’ ability to learn and improve is enhanced by the way in which we organise our curriculum.

We teach a creative curriculum and all pupils participate in a wide variety of artistic experiences including art, drama, dance and physical activity. Many of our pupils perform at Symphony Hall and the N.I.A. We enrich our pupils’ creative experiences by inviting a range of artists to work alongside our teachers to provide stimulating and exciting learning experiences which promote very good learning.

We invite theatre groups and we take pupils to the theatre.  We work with large and well known arts organisations like ‘Creative Partnerships’ and ‘Symphony Hall/Town Hall Education’.  We arrange many visits to places of educational value such as Blakesley Hall, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Soho House museum to name a few. We believe that ‘hands on’ active learning is the way to raise standards for all pupils.

We invite writers, sports personalities, our community police officers, fire officers to come into school and work with our pupils.

New Build

In 2012 our school will move to its brand new building, with an orchard and external space to allow outdoor education to take place in all year groups. The new school building will accommodate 60 pupils in two classrooms per year group.

Community Cohesion

In 2007, Ofsted recognised the success of the work we do to promote and maintain community cohesion. This is a strength of our school.

Healthy School

In December 2009 we became a Healthy School. We are truly committed to improving pupils’ understanding of how to keep healthy. Once a month we hold our successful Physical Activity half days.

Every year in the Spring Term we deliver the Healthy weeks Whole school project. On 12th February 2010 we held a Heath Focus Day; pupils and later parents and family members took part in a range of activities designed to promote Healthy life styles.

We offer healthy options in our school canteen. We offer a wide range of  clubs to KS1 and KS2 pupils; (vigor boarding, dance, indoor rowing, multi sports) the clubs take place  before school, at lunchtime and  some after school.

Modern Languages

We offer Spanish and Italian which are taught by staff from Spain and Italy.

Strong Partnerships

Our school has forged strong partnerships with Training Institutions like Newman University College and City of Birmingham University.

We are happy that you chose to browse our website and we know that you will enjoy seeing what we are all about, especially if you are an existing or past parent of the school. If you would like to visit the school as a prospective parent, please contact the school office and it will be a pleasure  to show you around the school.
